Urban Decay Spectrum Palette: Review and Thoughts

Urban Decay Spectrum Palette

During Sephora’s VIB/Rouge sale in November, I picked up a few things that I was really excited about, including the Urban Decay Spectrum Palette. This palette is/was limited edition, and has 15 colorful, jewel-toned shades.

This isn’t a practical palette if you don’t have a lot of space for makeup storage, or if you travel a lot – it doesn’t seal tightly, so I wouldn’t take it with me anywhere. The idea is that the packaging can be re-purposed once you’re finished with the eyeshadow, and turned into jewelry storage.

I’ve tried multiple looks with this palette, but since I’m a colorful makeup n00b, some of the attempts have been a little disastrous. So far, my favourite of the bright shades are Omen (lilac purple that works really well with my new purple hair), and Backlash, a bright and punchy pink.

Pinks can look a little sickly without some eyeliner (which creates a barrier between your eye and the pink color), so I made sure to apply a thin line of gel liner when I did this look.

Omen is such a beautiful color, and definitely my favorite from the Urban Decay Spectrum palette. For the most part, I’ve been sticking to one color at a time – wild rainbow looks are a little beyond my skillset at this point.

Temptalia has a thorough review and swatches, if you’re interested in checking that out.

If you’re a beginner to eyeshadow I probably wouldn’t recommend the Urban Decay Spectrum palette, simply because of the wild colors. And since all of the shades are shimmery, it might be necessary to use a different palette or shadow if you need matte colors (I often use matte colors for the crease or shading).

But if you’ve got a bunch of nude shadows and are interested in trying out some new vivid shades, I’ve been really enjoying playing with this palette. Most of the colors are flattering and more wearable than the colors in, say, Urban Decay’s Electric Palette.

Have you tried the Urban Decay Spectrum Palette? What are your favorite bright and colorful eyeshadows?

Your pink eyeshadow combo looks SO pretty! So mermaid-like and yes, I’m sure it goes with your new purple hair very well 😀 The palette in general seems to have some really nice shades, though I hate to admit that I am scared of applying eyeshadow, haha, and tend to just stick with very neutral nudes. Looks like a great score with this one though!

I am scared too, ha ha!

These shadows look so vivid and colorful! I really love the first look you did. I probably would suck using these as I am not a big eyeshadows person and usually opt for matte colors 🙂

Yeah I was hoping this palette would push me out of my comfort zone! I have a bit of a lipstick obsession and usually focus on that instead of eyes, but I’ve been trying to switch it up lately.

The combo of the first one is stunning! and quickly reminded me that I buff all of my eyeshadow colors into one big blob. I try I really do. I think I’ll try a pinky look soon-with the eyeliner of course. 🙂

Ha ha ha! I’ve been guilty of the blob blending as well.

These colors are so pretty! I tend to choose more neutral colors but these look really nice on you! I’ll have to try this palette someday 🙂

Thanks! Now if only I could figure out how to use the blues and greens…

Waaaaah, so pretty, love that look you made with it. I don’t mind getting a little wild my eyeshadow 😉

Wow, I never would have thought that pink eye shadow could ever work, on anyone, but you are rocking it! Love those shimmer metallics.
